GAP « Green Advanced Panel » PROJECT

Clean Technological Alternative to Chemical Machining
In order to reduce aircraft mass and energy consumption, fuselage panels have to be machined to reduce their thickness in different specific places of the panel. Double-curvature panel machining has been performed by chemical machining in heated weld bath until today. This technology has diverse negative impacts on environments: water, energy, masking waste, sludge… The GAP« Green Advanced Panel » objective is to implement a clean technological alternative to chemical machining.
The MMS Process– Milling Mirror System has been developped by Dufieux Industrie in 2005 as a result of a partnership with AIRBUS. This mechanical machining has substituted for chemical machining thanks to the mastery of several innovations. With mechanical machining, the only by-products generated are aluminimum chips that are totally recycled as secondary raw materials.
Since 2006, in 3 shift production conditions 7/7 days, the Perform MMS 8008 machines range have demonstrated the technical, environmental and economic performances of the mechanical machining of the specific shape panels used in aeronautics and space industries.
